Description
Open to artists of all practices and levels of expertise, this four-week course will cover various creative, commercial, and technical approaches to working with multidimensional sound for a range of interdisciplinary practices. This will include, but not be limited to, working with sound installations, soundscape compositions, musical performance and production, audiovisual works, virtual reality environments, game sound design, and immersive media technologies.
Participants will explore:
✣ The fundamentals of immersive soundscapes and spatial audio practices.
✣ Practical applications of Ambisonics, binaural, and Atmos tools.
✣ Techniques for constructing immersive soundscapes with a focus on space, place, and time.
✣ Compositional soundstaging, including convolution reverbs.
✣ Live spatial performance techniques using various instruments, controllers, and mapping.
✣ Developing multimedia spatial audio practices for interactive technologies, virtual reality, and game design.
The course will involve hands-on exercises, such as constructing immersive soundscapes, upmixing stereo projects for ambisonic environments, and experimenting with practical soundstaging. Each week, participants will have an opportunity to receive critical feedback on their work.
Experience with digital music production tools and Ableton Live is recommended.
This course will take place virtually via Zoom. All sessions will be recorded and made available to participants.

Instructor Bio
Adam Barkley is a music technologist, educator, researcher and performer from London, England. Since 2021 he has worked as an Associate Lecturer & Principal Electronic Music Studio Technician at Goldsmiths, University of London, where he leads regular lectures & workshops on electroacoustic composition, sound design, spatial audio, and interactive performance systems.
As a technician and creative consultant he has worked with a wide range of clients and venues including Saatchi Gallery, The Dream House Sound and Light Environment (New York), Turner Contemporary, The Serpentine Galleries, IKLECTIK, The Wellcome Collection, The Horniman Museum, and 180 Studios.

Cancellation Policy
Ticket holders have the option to cancel their reservations and receive a full refund if they do so at least 48 hours before the event starts. However, please note that any cancellation requests made within 48 hours of the event start time or after the event has already begun will not be honored.
If you're unable to attend but have a friend who'd love to take your spot, you can transfer your reservation to them before the class begins.
To request a cancellation, please send an email to hi(at)soundial.org with the subject line "Cancellation Request." In the email, include the following info:
• Your full name
• Date and time of the scheduled event
For eligible cancellation requests, we will initiate a refund to the original payment method used during registration. Please allow a processing time of 5-10 days for the refund to be processed.
Soundial reserves the right to cancel or reschedule events if necessary. Despite our best efforts, unforeseen circumstances such as technical issues or unavailability of instructors may arise, requiring adjustments to the event schedule. We will make every effort to notify you promptly and provide alternative options or refunds as needed.
