PSNY Virtual Workshop: Meditations in an Emergency

Part of The Poetry Society of New York's Weekly Virtual Workshop Series.

With poet Jackie Braje.

O’Hara himself is the stuff of his poetry—his personality, his humor, his sexuality and cultural interests all seem to socially and politically infiltrate the vast majority his work. However, if we allow ourselves to follow the philosophical path of mimesis—the idea that art imitates life—then we are invited formally by O’Hara to his quotidian life through the magic of everything he sees and experiences everyday, from a painting at the MoMA to a girl at a party.

Let us attempt, then, to eulogize the beauty and truth of our own everyday experiences—even in the midst of an emergency, of a pandemic. Let’s turn the interiority and the idiosyncrasies of our routines at home, at work or wherever, into something universal and available.

**This workshop will take place on Zoom.**
