With poet Matt Proctor!
Nu York School: Diary Poetics & Writing in the Now:
NYC is a big production studio for the movie of your life. What is it about the place that drives poets into the current moment, inspiring them to sing the praises of its famous landmarks. When we live here we have to live, but there must also be writing, and so we will experiment with different approaches NYC poets have had to creating poetry, including carrying a pocket notebook, writing 'Things To Do' or 'I-Do-This I-Do-That' poems, desktop publishing zines, and more. We will learn to create poems on the fly as free improvisation, turning the moments & events of our lives into word art as we live them, so as to achieve a more fluid relationship to contemporary syntax & grammatical structures and the speed & profusion of modern life, of which NYC is a prescient & physical embodiment.
About the Instructor: Matt Proctor is the host of Easy Paradise open mic every Monday at KGB Red Room and is a staff videographer at The Poetry Project at St. Mark's Church.
