Intro to Modular Synthesis in Pure Data ~ LA Wildfire Relief Fundraiser

$33.01 (includes all fees)

Schedule

Sunday, February 9th
12pm - 2pm EST
Virtual

Description

This workshop is an introduction to modular synthesis using Automatonism, a free and open-source program built on Pure Data.*

We’ll cover how to connect and route signals, and build basic modular synth patches, including oscillators, filters, and sequencers. You'll also learn how to use control voltage (CV) and experiment with sound manipulation techniques such as amplitude modulation and time-based effects like delay and reverb.

By the end, you'll leave with example patches, a worksheet for further exploration, and a basic understanding of how to use modular synthesis in your creative work. Participants will have the opportunity to share their work within our virtual learning environment after the class.

Open to beginners as well as those with some experience using Pure Data. Working knowledge of synths (digital or hardware) and familiarity with terms like oscillators, filters, and MIDI is useful but not necessary.

This workshop is a wildfire relief fundraiser for Mutual Aid LA Network. 100% of donations will go directly to supporting their efforts. We’ll provide a breakdown of funds raised and donated for transparency.

*Pure Data is a free visual programming language for music and multimedia applications. It allows users to build custom-made instruments and tools. The open source software is ideal for experimental electronic music, generative composition, multimedia installations, and video game music. It has been used by artists such as Kali Malone and Autechre, and in the 2008 game Spore by Electronic Arts.

This event will take place virtually via Zoom. The sessions will be recorded and made available to registered participants.

Please note: ticket registration closes 30 minutes prior to event start time.
