NYC's pet turtles are racing to support grassroots ecology education, local turtle rescue, and native turtle rehabilitation programs! This is different from traditional turtle races in which illegally captured wild turtles are often exploited and harmed. In the NYC Charity Turtle Race, only legally obtained and well-cared for turtles compete in a turtle-friendly tournament that benefits less fortunate turtles and promotes grassroots ecological education.
