Queer Ecology is a way of thinking that reshapes historical and colonial ideas of “Nature.” This screening event, hosted by New Ear Inc. at Fridman Gallery on the Bowery in New York’s Lower East Side, features short films that embody multiple visions of queering ecologies. Alongside the selection of shorts, a four-channel multimedia installation showcases experimental documentary materials generated during the past two years by the Queer Ecologies Research Collective (QuERC). The screening event is moderated by QuERC co-facilitator and New York-based art writer Alex A. Jones.
The Queer Ecologies Research Collective is a mutable organization dedicated to cross-pollination and community-building around the transdisciplinary topic of queer ecology. Like any body, the QuERC is constituted by its participants, and each gathering or project since 2023 provides new opportunities for the emergent collective to form, with the goal of generating knowledge and experimental methods for collective research. Models employed by the QuERC
have included in-person retreats, collective publication, and cabaret.
Featuring audiovisual contributions by Cy X, CG Traytor, Darian Razdar, the Insitute of Queer Ecologies, Suzy Lykins, nyla coleman, Maurício Chades, and Nicholas di Benedetto.
