Psychedelic Sangha presents,
Secret Drugs of Buddhism: Mountain of Smoke Ceremony + Book Talk
One of the least-discussed features of Vajrayana (e.g. Tibetan) Buddhism is its use of psychedelics. The use of these is a closely-guarded secret known by a select few. Fortunately, there have been enough loose lips over the centuries for Lama Mike to write a book about it!
Join Lama Mike Crowley at FEZ, in Mill Valley California, for a a special "Mountain of Smoke" ceremony followed by a book talk on
Secret Drugs of Buddhism: Psychedelic Sacraments and the Origins of the Vajrayana (Synergetic Press, 2019). Lama Mike will also be teaching from his forthcoming book,
Psychedelic Buddhism: A User's Guide to Traditions, Symbols, and Ceremonies (Simon & Schuster 2023).
The Mountain of Smoke ceremony is ubiquitous in Tibet, notably in Buddhism but also in Bön, the indigenous religion. It ritually offers the scent of various varieties of incense to numerous possibly malevolent (and invisible) forces in exchange for their benevolence toward us. It is frequently used at new premises, whether houses or shops. There is a point where those attending may offer their own incense.
*The Mountain of Smoke" ceremony starts at 5:30pm. There will be a short break before the book talk at 6pm. You need not attend the ceremony in order to go to the book talk, but your ticket includes both.
